What's All the Fuss About Organic Dog Treats?

By Geraldine Dimarco

Organic-now what comes to mind when somebody says they went "organic"? Usually, it means that they have gone back to basics and consume food and products that are closest to its raw and natural form; in other words, less tampering by manufacturers. The result of using organic is better health all around. Indeed, it doesn't matter if you are human or hound-the same rule applies to all species.

Now, it's not that commercial bags of pet food are bad and you will be a terrible master if you feed this to them-of course not. Several of these commercial pet food brands are of good quality. However, for most pet owners, natural homemade dog treats are still the better alternative because many have attested that their dogs lived longer and enjoyed a better quality of life because of it. So, what makes these organic dog treats worthwhile?

1. Maintenance of a healthy weight. Overweight dogs are more susceptible to some canine diseases. Therefore it is vitally important that your pet maintains the recommended weight for his particular breed. Organic food are packed with nutrients and generally more filling so the dog will only consume the amount he needs. Moreover, these kinds of food usually trims away the unneeded substances that will only be translated to excess weight for the animal

2. Higher level of energy. Excellent organic fare have essential minerals and nutrients that are recommended by most veterinarians. More than processed food, a more natural diet will show an enhanced vitality and strength to the dog. This will cause him to be more active and exercise will be as easier task-which in turn means a healthier lifestyle that is always a priority to us.

3. A better-looking over-all appearance. Organic homemade dog treats do not have the artificial colorings, chemicals, preservatives and artificial additives that contribute to skin allergies and infections. You will notice when you put your pet in an organic diet that he will have a shinier, softer coat, clearer eyes and elimination of various skin disorders.

4. Good digestive movement. Excellent quality of natural grains and protein are easy to digest. It is common for the dog to consume less food (as it is also more filling as each bite is densely packed with nutrients) without sacrificing his strength and vigor. Subsequently, he will poop less and his pattern of "doing business" will be more predictable. The stool will also be less rancid (I hear pet owners from all around the world heave a sigh of relief).

5. A heightened autoimmune system. We have said that organic food is readily digested by the dog's body; this also means that the nutrients that these meals carry are absorbed better by his system. When the immune system of the dog is good, there is less possibility of him contracting whatever sickness of infection that comes along.

They say organic is more expensive but really, you will end up saving a lot more in doctor fees and medical bills when you prioritize the animal's health. If anything, organic dog treats are worth trying. When you do you will forget how you ever did without it.
