Skills of a Modern-Day Handyman

By Neil Masiello

Summer is here and so is the urge to get projects done that have been tucked away all winter long-projects that no one particularly felt like doing. Now that it's hot outside and several holidays are quickly approaching, many are ramping up to complete these projects.

These include spring cleaning, bathroom renovations and landscaping, to name a few. It is often a lot to do and many are left feeling overwhelmed with all of the tasks that have built up over the past several months. Do not panic. The load can be quickly eased with a handyman.

When many think of a handyman, they imagine someone who is able to do only a few basic tasks and who performs sublevel work. A modern-day handyman boasts professional skills and is often certified for a few special tasks. The days are over where these professionals were only able to do lawn maintenance and simple plumbing. Most would be amazed at what a handyman can do.

Many handymen also have green thumbs and perform outside maintenance. They are able to plant shrubs and flowers, along with improve the look of grass. Additional outside tasks they are capable of include advanced landscaping, adding outside lighting and mending cracks in the pavement.

A handyman is also trained to work on decks and patios. Whether it is improving the appearance, or building an add-on unit, handymen are great if you are looking for a deck builder.

A handyman often serves as a plumber, especially when there is an emergency. In the event that something disastrous happens in your bathroom, a handyman is able to handle these tasks with ease.

Remodeling, electrical tasks and lighting are some of the other tasks that a handyman is capable of doing. When executing electrical tasks, a handyman licensed in this area is very important.

There are several advantages of choosing a handyman over a large chain for these duties.

Price- It is a significant cost in savings. A chain will usually charge a lot more money than a handyman. Part of this is because they have to support a brick-and-mortar business. Their contractors are also being paid for the skills they have professionally trained for.

Time- It is also easier to build a relationship with a sole professional. That way, when you need a project completed quickly, there is a better chance of it topping the books.

Variety of Projects-A handyman today offers a lot of expertise backed by a strong education and professional training. They are able to serve in many roles including kitchen remodeler, plumber, landscaper, and deck builder. These myriad of services offer those needing it, access to most of the skills available at a huge chain. This alone can save a lot of money. In the absence of a good handyman, individual services will have to be obtained one by one.

Always check out your local handyman when retaining services for your home and yard. They are, at least, able to keep money in your pocket, show up at your home rather quickly, and complete most jobs the average homeowner needs.
