proven methods to stop your canine's woofing

By Tyler Luke

Everyone loves their animals, but a barking dog can be very irritating. This usually drives people crazy, but it can be stopped with the proper training methods. I am not going to lie, it is going to be hard. However, if you take a little bit of time everyday, it can be done. You must realize, though, that dogs bark naturally and that they often need to. Stopping a dog from barking completely is almost impossible and would be very cruel.

Reasons why dog's bark

Barking can be caused for a lot of reasons. Often, dogs bark because they have a high level of anxiety or are afraid of approaching dangers. If you don't know why your pet is barking, why would you teach them to stop? This is their way of communicating with the world, and just like we talk for many reasons, they do too. They might even be barking to get attention. Thankfully, stopping their barking is not too hard once you understand how to do it.

The barking must stop

Barking can be stopped once you know why they bark. If they bark because they sense danger, you probably want them to continue this behavior. Naturally, animals want to protect us and this should not be taken for granted. For instance, the most well behaved pooch will bark when a stranger is at the door. However, they will also stop once they realize you want that individual in the house. This is why it is so important to list the reasons for stopping your pet's barking. There are some really good ways to stop them, even when they bark because of anxiety. It is really simple to do.

Dog barking because of anxiety

It might be hard for people to understand, but anxiety will cause an animal to bark. Inherently, they want to protect their pack members and expect their masters to protect them. If you have to leave for work, they might not feel comfortable while you are gone. Because of this, they can continue to bark for hours. Oftentimes, they will bark for hours or until they fall asleep. This is actually a common reason for the police getting called. Neighbors, no matter how friendly, will call the police if your pet continues with this behavior. The way to stop this would be to ignore them when you come back home. Entering your house and showering your dog with love is promoting this behavior. Many prominent trainers suggest that you try and ignore your animal when you first come in the house. This is supposed to stop the promotion of their barking. A brief 10 minutes is all that is needed.

Many trainers recommend that you teach your pet the speak and stop commands. While this might seem counterproductive, it is very useful. If you teach them to bark, you can use this to have them bark for warranted occasions. Teaching them to stop can be useful for, well, telling them to stop barking. So, the next time your pet barks because they want attention, you can just tell them to stop instead of wanting to rip your hair out.

It is practically a necessity to teach your dog to stop barking. If this is done too late in a dog's life, they might never understand. Fortunately, bark collars are really helpful in these situations. I personally recommend the citronella types because they work off of smell instead of electric shocks.
