Lon Woodbury, an Independent Educational Consultant who has worked with families and struggling teens since 1984, has recently published "Preteens and Young Adults," the fourth book in his Parent Empowerment Series. The book is now available on Amazon's Kindle books.
"Preteens and Young Adults" is a guidebook that will help moms and dads and child-care professionals who are working with at-risk kids on both sides of the teen spectrum:specifically, preteens and young adults. Kids who are emerging into their teen years are called preteens. Kids who have actually come to the end of their teen years are called young adults...although they have grown up, they are not yet mature enough to be thought of as independent adults.
The Quintessential Guide for "Preteens and Young Adults".
In the preteens section, "Preteens and Young Adults" describes in detail the changes, dilemmas, frustrations and challenges experienced by children on the cusp of their teenage years. It then provides a list of top schools and programs for struggling preteens. Each school or program is fully described so that parents can compare schools or programs to see which one offers the best fit for their preteen.
In the young adults section, the book provides an insight into the many psychological and sociological issues behind why many young adults "fail to launch." While parents are wrestling with their children's inability to move out of the family home, find a job, and live independently, young adults are struggling with growing up and finding their place in a society where they do not feel they fit in.
This section not only provides parents and counselors with a deeper understanding of the "epidemic" of struggling young adults, but also devotes ten chapters on the steps necessary to empower young adults to feel competent in the world. Again, as in the preteen section, top schools and programs are described that will help young adults find the solutions their need for success in life.
In essence, then, the book offers a psychological and sociological perspective on the struggles of preteens and young adults. In addition, it provides a comprehensive directory of recommended parent-choice programs, solutions, and institutions throughout the United States for preteens and young adults. This 143-page book provides invaluable information, guidance, and resources for parents whose struggling children fall into either the pre-teen or young adult category.
