By Johnathan Black

Gardening is a subject that sometimes scares people away, simply because they don't feel confident enough to create a beautiful home garden. The thing about gardening though is that if you gradually learn and apply as much knowledge as you can, your garden will grow and prosper to its fullest potential. This article provides some insightful tips you can use.

For the fall season, plant a few fall edible plants in your garden containers. Beautiful selections of kale and mustard greens, have lovely shades of greens and purples and offer different textures to the arrangement. Add a few edible pansies to bring color to the green textures. The combination is fetching and will last well into the winter.

Create soil for your organic garden by composting. Composting is a wonderful way to re-use some items that you would normally throw away as garbage. It also provides for rich and fertile soil, without the use of chemicals and pesticides. Compost bins are available in many sizes to fit your specific needs.

Don't forget to fertilize your garden! Water isn't enough when it comes to growing delicious, healthy vegetables. Choose the fertilizer that best suite your crop. Some people prefer manure while others can't get around the thought of it. There are many fertilizer options available at your local gardening store, so there is certainly a right one for you.

Weed the garden often and early. Plan on a weeding schedule for the garden at least three times. The first should be five to seven days after sowing, and again seven to ten days after that. The third time should be three to four weeks after planting. By this time the plants should be rooted well enough to add mulching and sufficient leaves to shade the surface.

When you are working in your garden, be sure to leave the praying mantis alone. These insects are skilled predators which take care of any number of harmful pests. In addition, these praying mantises do not harm your garden in any way, so let them go about their work protecting your garden from pests.

There you have a few more ways to make gardening more enjoyable and productive. A garden is one of the most beautiful additions to any environment. It also provides its caretaker with a great way to reduce stress, forget about the trials and tribulations that life may hold, while giving you a real sense of pride and accomplishment. So get out there and enjoy!
