Using recycled tires for a flower bed

By Mark Stevens

If you grew up working in your parent's garden, you know how much you can save in fruits and vegetables. An easy thing to do and not an expensive one either. The enjoyment of having fresh produce from your own garden is great. A herb garden is something you can try as well. Store bought produce cannot be as good as that which you grow fresh from the garden. You also get the satisfaction of a produce, you have created yourself. In addition it is you who is in charge of what is added. You know it is fresh, natural, and without preservatives.

Many people who would like to garden, just don't have the room for long rows of carrots or large spaces to grow squash or melons. Therefore people need to look at alternatives. One possible answer to this problem is to plant your garden in smaller spaces. A great reason for this is that you can cater for your needs but still plant more for later harvests. Old tires are a great way for planting a garden.

Old tires are available free at many outlets. When getting new tires you might get old ones for only $5.00 On average all you will need is maybe four or five for a good bit of planting. If you are planning on a larger planting, maybe up to ten will be needed

The idea of old tires in the garden may not seem so good. Maybe the neighbors will object? Covering them up with something can make them look much better. You can set them in wooden boxes to increase their attractiveness. Cutting into floral patterns and then painting them works. You can even use the rim as a stand.

it is best to pick a place and cultivate the soil by digging down to a depth of 4 inches. You want the roots to extend as far as they need to grow into healthy plants. Always use good soil for planting. A local store, Home Depot or a Lowes will stock this. Planting your seeds in well fertilized soil is essential. Don't over water, but do water regularly. You will have a small but adequate garden that will fulfill your needs very well. Plenty of money will be saved as you won't have to buy your fresh produce from a store.
