How To Use Home Designs On This Green Planet

By Joanna Crank

Today we pay close attention to home designs which protect our planet with green elements. That could mean house plans are drawn up to take full use of only renewable and recycled products. A lot of attention is even being paid to creating homes that use less energy than in the past. Then there are those homes that combine all the above and are fully self-sufficient.

In today's world it is energy efficiency that is the most sought after commodity when building or remodeling homes. house plans are being drawn up to include the most beneficial levels of insulation, and the designs themselves take into consideration the best flow of heat and air. Appliances are also selected from energy efficient stock.

Homeowners often request that contractors use recycled materials so that they get the look and feel they are after while at the same time saving trees. Eco-friendly materials can be used throughout the home and that does not have to stop with those members that hold the house together. Recycled and reconstructed materials are being created to look like granite counter tops.

Appliances like air conditioners, washers and dryers, refrigerators, ranges, and small electric appliances are the ones that can make the most difference in energy savings, and home designs often take this into consideration. The Energy Star label should be something that you look for when searching for new appliances. Recycle the old appliances by giving them to someone else or sell at a garage sale.

Another element to consider when designing your home is the furniture. Most people, when it is time to redesign the look of the home consider purchasing brand new furniture. Older furniture is often hauled to the landfill. Buying new tables and chairs, desks, sofas, bureaus and other items can be very expensive, and we are talking about going green here after all.

When furniture is outdated or worn, it can actually be reworked to bring it back to like new quality. New upholstery and paint can go a long way. Some items of furniture can be cut down or added onto to make it look brand new.

One of the most critical elements of a home is the flooring. This is a place where anyone can go green by using eco-friendly materials. Cork and bamboo are products that are well received by green activists, and they are just as if not more durable as other hard woods.

When talking about going green, we are talking about saving not spending more money. Isn't it time to go green?
