9 Simple Ways to Boost Your Memory

By Hal Neff

When people are asked about the most significant things in their lives, they'll usually fit their valued memories near the top of the list. However, when you grow older you might notice that your memory isn't what it used to be.

The good thing is that you will find easy steps you could make in order to boost your memory without a whole lot of effort. In the end, you will be pleased you did them and you'll find out that your memory is absolutely worth the time and effort.

Think about seeking the following tips and techniques to enhance your memory:

1 . Repetition. Repetition moves information within your brain from short term to long term memory. Simple, right? So why not use it more often?

* If you are attempting to remember names, repeat the names out loud or scribble them down.

* If you want to recall information, scribble it on flash cards and review them regularly.

2 . Reduce your stress level. Long term stress can do some serious damage to your mental health. Stress plays a big role in your ability to recall stuff. When you participate in stress relieving activities every day, you will be doing a service to your overall health and strengthen your memory along the way.

3. Avoid rushing. It is tempting to hurry through life at a fast pace. However , you're more likely to forget things if you're moving too rapidly. If you are in a position where you know you will have to recall information, give yourself proper amount of time to process the information.

4. Enjoy puzzles. Try participating in some kind of puzzle or mind teaser every day. When your brain is used to working, it will continue to do so. If it spends a lot of time being idle, your memory skills will start to without you even really noticing it.

* Exercising your mind is equally as important as exercising the body.

5. Think positively. When you have a positive mindset, you're more inclined to achieve great things. There is no exception to this rule when it comes to your memory. If you believe that you have a poor memory, it will be so. Think positive thoughts, and your memory skills will automatically improve.

6. Stay organized. Try to strengthen your organizational skills. Scribble down reminders for yourself and keep track of data. If your life is disorganized, it's harder to remember things.

7. Get a good night's rest. Your brain requires a certain amount of sleep in order to function properly. Less sleep makes it more difficult to concentrate and less likely to commit information to long term memory.

8. Boost your health. Improving your overall health strengthens your memory as well. A good diet and regular workout maintain your brain function in good shape. Physical exercise also sends blood to the brain, which keeps you alert and active.

9. Avoid distractions. At times you will discover that you have difficulties recalling things because you may have been sidetracked while you were attempting to concentrate.

* When people are talking to you, be sure you give your undivided attention.

* When you're working on your computer, keep the Television and other distractions to a minimum.

Remember to stay organized and actively keep your mental and physical health a top priority, and you'll enjoy a healthy memory for years to come!
