The Characteristics Of Cockapoo Puppies Are Unique

By Ann Jordan

Cockapoo puppies are a mix of two purebred dogs: poodles and cocker spaniels. Cockapoos are considered by some to be the original designer dog, and they are typically both friendly and intelligent. They are celebrated for their fuzzy coat, which can be virtually any color, and they are very people oriented. Fans of this hybrid canine love it for its personality and are seeking to establish a true breed standard for this type of dog.

The Cockapoo has been a popular pet choice in the United States and other countries since the 1960s. Those who fancy this breed report that it was the original "designer dog". The latter is a phrase referring to the offspring of two distinctly different purebred canines. As previously mentioned, those who raise Cockapoos are dedicated to establishing the dog as a true breed with consistent hereditary traits and characteristics.

Due to the fact that a breed standard has yet to be established, the physical appearance of Cockapoos vary from one dog to the next. Some puppies closely resemble cocker spaniels, while poodle characteristics are more obvious in others. Such dogs may weigh anywhere from ten to twenty pounds, and are usually between ten and fifteen inches in height.

Dogs of this kind are categorized as miniature, toy, or standard size depending on their measurements. Most have soft, curly or wavy coats that grow constantly, but shed very little fur, the latter of which many dog owners find advantageous. They usually have large brown eyes, and medium size ears that hang down.

Cockapoo puppies are known for their intelligence and loving friendly manner. Additionally, they have a high level of patience with children and are rarely aggressive toward other dogs or humans. They are very playful and curious, and typically want to be included in family activities. Dogs of this type are also good swimmers and usually have no aversion to water. They warm up to strangers very easily, and therefore should not be considered by those looking for a watchdog.

Although dogs of this kind are sociable and friendly, if they become scared they may bite or bare their teeth. Some of them experience separation anxiety when away from their owners. In addition, it is important to house train such puppies at a very young age in order to establish proper indoor behavior.

The breeding of designer puppies, such as the Cockapoo is a somewhat controversial activity among both canine professionals and animal lovers. Some individuals regard such dogs as simply mutts. Others believe that there is enough evidence to suggest they can be their own individual breed with established standards. However, they are currently classified as a mixed breed by the American Kennel Club.

While mixed breeds are allowed to compete at dog shows, they must be altered in order to qualify. These guidelines will likely change, however, if the breed becomes recognized by experts or groups such as the American Dog Breeders Association. Regardless of the different viewpoints concerning Cockapoo puppies, most people who own such dogs agree that they make excellent pets. For this reason, anyone who is searching for a new puppy should consider a Cockapoo.
