Saving Your Irreplaceable Digital Photographs

By Matthew Rivers

Due to all the possibilities for saving your photos, you're sure to find a way that works for you. The most important thing to keep in mind is that no single method is perfect. All of them have drawbacks and benefits, so it's best to select more than one way of storage just for peace of mind. I mean, when it comes to important photos or memories, this is a must.

Using a DVD Collection

By using this method you'll be able to easily store your photos, but the key is keeping enough DVDs on hand for saving images when you need to. Storage has now become so important in digital photography that it is now like the negatives of film cameras. Thankfully, retrieving digital images is often much easier than negatives.

One drawback to storing all of your photos on DVDs is the possibility of a catastrophic event that might damage your collection. In the event that something happened to your home or even a portion of it, more than likely both your computer and back up discs might be ruined at the same time. However, when you combine this with online storage, you can avoid the loss of your memories and diligent work.

Utilizing a Hard Drive for Storage

For most hard drives, the cost will be less than one hundred dollars, but it is not the cheapest of all methods. Still, free online services often cost when it comes to retrieving archived pictures on DVD. So, just weigh the difference for the cost of retrieval as compared with the expense of a hard drive.

Also, if it is used as your sole method of digital photography backup, then an external drive could be subject to the same tragedy as the hard drive in your main computer. If, in the case of theft, it would be easy to take a small drive. But worse yet, is the more common problem of your surge protector failing, frying your computer as well as the external drive.

Utilizing Cloud Storage

For cloud storage, carefully select your service plan. Finding out that archived photos are not available at full resolution or that are not longer because they haven't been accessed for a period of time can be extremely frustrating. Thus, select your plan carefully, examining the security protection available as well.

Thus, from each of these methods, you can see that there is no easy solution to this problem. Instead, it's best to find something that is most appropriate for you, while keeping in mind that the more methods used, the better. Peace of mind comes easily with more than just one plan if there's ever a problem.
