I am the kind of person who doesn't care that much for reality TV, which sets me apart from most people I know. Don't get me wrong; I understand that there is an audience for this kind of material and I see why so many people are engaged in it. However, unless there are physical challenges put into place, my attention is not going to be held for very long. I think that, amongst all of the levels of competition to be seen, adventure racing is my favorite.
Before anyone asks, yes, I understand that reality TV is not always "real." I know that there are directors behind the scenes as well as other people in management that have some way in how these particular events are supposed to unfold. However, it does not stop me from taking some time out of my day to watch, at least, one of these episodes. If the events are crazy enough to keep my attention, there's a good chance that I won't say anything terrible about it.
I don't know if it would be outside of the realm of thought for these individuals to go about training in some way. After all, it is very easy for individuals who have not been athletically active to go out to compete and become short of breath rather easily. They may not understand the importance of pacing, which can result in fewer strong results in the long term. You have to be able to conserve what you have or else you are only going to do yourself a great disservice.
Should they go about and compete in events along the lines of Spartan Race then? I believe that individuals should be able to train beforehand, especially when it comes to the physicality that reality TV calls for. I do not think that anyone can argue with the benefits that adventure racing can have in the long term. However it is up to you to take that initiative, making sure that your physical condition is at the utmost level that it can be in the long term.
I think that individuals should be more mindful of what they do in terms of adventure racing, especially if they are going to go about it in strong competitions. This goes for just about anything, whether you are talking about actual races or reality TV. In terms of the latter, I may not be the biggest fan, as I have established before. That being said, I know that there is a certain appeal to it and even now I find myself becoming engrossed by the activity within it.
