Simple Strategies to Stop Snoring

By Phil Pfeifferhorn

When someone thinks about snoring, one immediately thinks about the awful noise. However, snoring is much more than just that. You may have a physical problem that manifests itself through excessive or loud snoring. The following advice will help a person effectively treat their snoring.

Nasal strips can cut down on snoring. These strips stick to either side of your nose and keep the nasal canals wide open. If your nostrils are opened as wide as possible, the chance of snoring through your nose is lessened greatly. Steer clear of this option, however, if you suffer from sleep apnea.

Software like Dreamweaver and Adobe Photoshop are highly useful tools for web designers. If you haven't heard of these tools, look them up on Wikipedia and see how they are relevant to web design.

If you have a snoring problem, one place to look for relief is your dentist's office. They will be able to make for you a mouth-guard, which is done by taking a mold of the inside of your mouth. When you wear the mouth guard at night, it will pull your jaw forward just a bit, so that the tissues in your throat do not collapse while you are asleep; this way, you won't snore.

Speak with your pharmacist about medications that can be taken to reduce your snoring. Prescription medications also exist, but they are usually more expensive than over-the-counter treatments. Each medication treats a different cause, including congestion, swelling and muscle relaxation.

If you snore often, drinking alcohol may make it worse. Avoid antihistamines, tranquilizers and other sleeping pills at bedtime. Drugs and alcohol will cause your muscles to overly relax and this, in turn, will worsen snoring problems.

Avoid falling asleep on your back, this can reduce the amount of snoring you do in the middle of the night. If you can't quite figure out a good way to not be a back sleeper, then try to attach a large object like a ball to the back portion of your pajamas. If you should roll over on to this uncomfortable object, you are less likely to stay in that position.

Purchase a humidifier and keep it operating in your bedroom every night. Humidifiers create constant streams of moisturizing, warm vapors. This will cause your nasal lining to moisten, reduce in size and allow your airway to reopen. One benefit of this is a reduction in your level of snoring.

You may see snoring as a problem that is hard to overcome or control. But, this does not have to be the case. There are a number of techniques you can use to reduce your snoring, or get rid of it altogether. You should start by following these guidelines, and see what it's like to finally get a full night of sleep.
