Home Security the Low Tech Way

By Mark Mahaffey

If you are like most people, you worry about the security of your home. Crime is everywhere-all you have to do is watch the evening news to get an idea of how prevalent it is in our society, and no one is exempt from the possibility of being a victim. From home break-ins to car theft to arson, your home is vulnerable to crime.

Because the threat of being a victim of crime is so high, you probably want to do what you can to increase the security of your home so that your property and family are safe. It is smart to be proactive in the prevention of crime. The longer you wait to upgrade your home security, the longer you are putting yourself at risk. Do not wait until it is too late.

However, if you do not want to spend a lot of money as your upgrade your home security, you may think that you have very few options. While it is true that the high tech security systems do cost a lot of money, you do not have to remain unprotected if you are trying to keep your budget low. With a little ingenuity, you can stay safe without having to spend a lot of money.

For example, you could purchase a dog to guard your home. Dogs are great for alerting you to strangers who are up to no good. You will want to get a breed that is known for threatening intruders. Just be sure to get your new dog as a puppy so he can grow up around your family. This will prevent him from every being a danger to you.

A fence is also a great idea to upgrade the security of your home. Fences are difficult to climb, and burglars would rather not go to such trouble if they can avoid it. If a crook has a choice of houses to break in-one with a fence and one without-he is likely to choose the one without a fence, because it is easier.

Also consider putting a gate at the end of your driveway. A gate will prevent a burglar from being able to drive up to your home, which will make it difficult for him to steal from you. The harder it is for him to get to your house, the less likely he is to rob you. He will likely just go on to the next home.
