The major problem that almost every candidate has to go through is making the choice of optional subjects. People appearing for the IAS exam already know that the preliminary exam held in the 1st stage of IAS exam comprises of two objective papers, each of them carrying equal marks each, which is 200 marks each. So this has eliminated the thought process of which subject they must choose as an optional subject for the preliminary exams.

The prelims for the IAS examination are an objective type paper which is held in the month of June every year. The first paper of the examination consists of general knowledge with maximum marks of 150, for which you have to answer 100 questions.

The second paper is optional and consists of paper including the political science, Economics, Psychology and Physics, etc. This exam consists of maximum 300 marks with 120 questions to answer for which the time duration is about 2 hours.

Schools and colleges are found to have general knowledge quiz contest every now and then so that the children bring their focus on matters that they haven't discusses or never heard of. There are several business companies, providing you with sponsors regarding the quiz contests, which are held across the globe. This definitely helps the student to look for books or information other than their regular syllabus.

Candidate must look to select the subject with which it is comfortable. Just looking at the concept of answers and length of the subject shouldn't be the only matter of concern but they must also follow they must also take care of the comfort with the subject. You must also look for the IAS study material in case you want to prepare yourself according to the IAS pattern.

The personality test or the personal interview is the last stage of the competition and the last elimination stage of the competition. Here the ratio for the selection is 1:2 and the twice the number of seats the candidates appear for the interview. For example there are 50 seats available then a total of 100 candidates are selected for the interview.

Candidates must choose the subject with which there are comfortable with and they can easily understand it. Also you must be careful while choosing the optional subjects too. It is going to decide the candidate's selection in the IAS examination.
