Factors To Consider When Choosing Bengal Kittens

By Rebecca Allen

You have been dreaming of owning a cat that will be putting a smile on your face each time you look at it. Being your first time to own a cat, Bengal kittens would be the ideal breed to start with. With that in mind, you may also want to make sure that you find a good breeder to choose your kitten from. Trying to find the right breeder can prove to be an overwhelming task.

A great way to find the right breeders is through seeking referrals from friends and neighbors. There must be people you know who own the same breed of cats that you want to buy. Ask them about the breeder that sold them their cats. If you cannot find reliable referrals, you may as well choose to visit online sites. Most breeders have informative websites that you can use.

While visiting a breeder to have a better look at their litter is a good rule of thumb, you also need to consider whether buying one or two cats will be the best decision for you. For those that spend most of their time out of the home, buying two kitties will be a good thing to do. You do not want your kitten to feel lonely when you are not home.

Most of the breeders will give you a discount if you are buying two kitties. However, both cats do not necessarily have to be Bengals. You may consider another breed that gets along well with other cats. Then ensure that you introduce them at the same time or within a few weeks of one another. Do not introduce a cat to an established territory of another.

Once you establish how many kittens you would wish to purchase, start calling some breeders in your area to determine their price range. You can then arrange appointments with the breeders. Break down your visits to the breeders so you can probably wash and change your clothing. This will help you avoid cases of cross infection among different litters and breeds.

Before calling the breeder, you need to prepare a list of questions to ask besides price. One of the most important things you need to find out from them is whether they will be giving you a purchase agreement. Make sure that the agreement provides for the breeder taking back the kitten in case you find complications with keeping the cat in your home.

While most breeders may not take back the kitties they have already sold, they will help you find another home where you can take the cat. This is very important in ensuring that you do not have a difficult time exiting the cat from your home. You may also want to find out from your potential breeder whether they will give you a health guarantee.

When meeting a potential kitten, be sure that they are healthy and alert. Play with the cat to see how they react. Confirm that the breeder has run tests for various diseases. Do not feel rushed into making a decision.
