There are many methods used to keep carpets clean. They include dry extraction, bonnet pad, rotary shampoo, encapsulation, dry foam shampoo, and hot water extraction among others. Before any new method is approved for use in this industry, it first has to receive the approval of the regulating body. Normally in most countries, the regulators are independent non-profit making organizations. Methods that fail to reach the requirements are disqualified.

This article discusses some of the methods frequently used for washing carpets. Dry extraction cleaning method uses an absorbent medium in form of powders or sponges. The absorbent mediums are impregnated with little detergent, solvent, and water. The medium is worked with counter rotating double brush appliance which helps to clean the carpet. Water loosens soil and stains.

The major advantage of this method is that there is normally less streaking and the drying period is considerably short. Short drying period is of great importance if the rug is used in heavy traffic buildings. The disadvantage is that the process cannot be used to clean carpets that are heavily soiled. There is also a heavy buildup of residue on the rug after cleaning. This can be disadvantageous if the setting is residential with little kids crawling on the floor.

Bonnet pad washing involves spraying cleaning solutions on mats first before vacuuming them. The devices used for vacuuming the solution are referred to as floor machines and they have bonnets at their base, which absorb washing solutions together with the sprayed water. Bonnets also vacuum dislodged and dissolved stains and soil. When bonnets have taken up sufficient soil and water, they are rinsed and then turned to finish up the work.

The benefit of bonnet pad washing method is that the floor machine can be applied to clean a big area in a short period. The drying time of rugs is also considerably short. The floor machines used also require minimal operator skills which renders it capable of being handled by people with minimal skills. The disadvantage is that it is inefficient for highly soiled regions.

Encapsulation is a recent technology utilized to clean carpets. It employs both crystallization and cleaning agents. The washing agents suspend soil from floors before encapsulating the soil to crystals using crystallization agents. The dry crystals are vacuumed away afterwards. The washing agents are formulated with polymers in their compositions. This makes them less environmentally friendly.

Encapsulation as a carpet maintenance method has the advantage of not forming dirt attracting residues. This makes the rug to stay clean for a longer period. There is also no rinsing required and large areas can be cleaned cost effectively. The limitation of the method is however its inability to work effectively on grease impacted floors. Therefore, when in need of well done organic carpet cleaning Charlotte is the solution.
