Some Techniques For Screen Printing

By Andrea Davidson

A printing technique that utilizes any piece of woven mesh is called screen printing Vermont. The mesh will be made to support a stencil to attain a particular image or design. The stencil will be used to create areas in the mesh that allows the movement and transfer of ink. A squeegee and a fill blade is normally used to scatter the ink in the design pattern. Such method is normally used to make various designs for some shirt, wood, posters and other possible surfaces.

You must use the exact mesh to have good prints as well. It would also depend usually on the total number of colors of the paint that would be used for printing. The usual setup would be the square position where you could put the screen in line with a shirtboard. This can be done simple by putting a ruler under the frame and look through it to further square the image.

When you will have multi colored prints on light shirts, start from the lightest to the darkest color or from the smallest to the largest area. This process will allow you to minimize the ink that is picking up in the bottom. You can remove the residue from the bottom by simply wiping it off.

There are many ways to handle the squeegee as well. You can grip it from the top, but your fingertips would end up swollen. You can also hold it by the side and pull it towards you. With this technique, you can actually get great pressure especially when printing with thick inks.

The normal method to use it would be to pull it towards you, but pushing it away will make the entire task easier. When you begin to pull, you would have to use the shoulder muscles and the wrist. If you decide to push it, the weight of your body will help you. Just try pushing it, but do not change the certain angle or even the way you are holding it. This will certainly work with those thinner inks.

The use of one stroke would be the exact way to print an image. Two strokes may also be used to achieve better coverage of some areas. However, you must apply it in an even manner. The use of assorted strokes will give you thicker prints and will allow the paint to go through the screen. Thin down the strokes and try to experiment on the results.

You would need to apply much pressure to get the ink through the screen. Excessive pressure may spread the ink and might cause some shadowy and uneven prints. The right thickness is often achieved through medium pressure and one stroke.

The overall procedure can somehow become advantageous since it allows massive production at a certain time. You may even have durable designs later on. Such will not easily fade with just physical contact. It could even stay for several years. This process is definitely versatile since it can accommodate materials of different varieties.

Screen printing Vermont is highly versatile compared to other techniques. No pressure is required in dealing with surfaces such as etching or lithography. This could be used in various industries also where there is massive production of products such as balloons, clothing, product labels and signs.
