Whenever summer comes around, parents will look for ways to entertain their children while at the same time learn a new skill or lesson. Self sufficiency is highly important because it teaches young girls and boys the skills they need to survive in the real world. Not only has that, these teachings also applied to survival skills that will help them in case they become stranded in the woods alone. Basically, these youngsters are taught essential survival skills useful in different applications.

Since there are usually bodies of water nearby like waterfalls and lakes, the organizers take advantage of this opportunity to allow boys and girls to swim. They can conduct games like water volleyball, or swimming contests. Aside from that, they will often have canoes or paddle boats for the kids to use. This also allows them to remain refreshed from the summer heat.

Another common tradition is conducting bonfires every night. This allows campers to bond amongst each other by telling stories and singing songs with a guitar. In fact, a tradition is telling each other scary stories about the area and other superstitious tales.
