God has been speaking to the people of Homa Bay through a special messenger. Christ Faith Evangelical Church under the stewardship of Pastor David Oloo has been serving the lakeside town for over a decade now. God has prompted this ministry through its shepherds to take on a new name. It is now being referred to as Good Shepherd House of Worship.
In 2010, the church building had its foundations laid on Asego Hills in the western regions of Kenya at a place called Homa Bay. The structure stood on a plot of land whose size is approximately 50ft by 100ft. The support of an American Christian who dedicated profit from his business to the project was crucial in its completion. The member took the project as a way to thank God for enabling him to prosper in business. It was his own unique way of bringing Christ closer to people.
Having been completed in 2011, the chapel houses 600 people. This is the envisaged place where the inhabitants of Homa-Bay can have a personal encounter with Christ. The support of well wishers from all over the world has made it possible for the people of this area to experience the presence of God in a special way.
As the shepherds were laying the foundation, there was a feeling that it should be named a House of Worship. However, at the moment, this was not possible. Five years later, the shepherds have heeded to the call to rename it Good Shepherd House of Worship. This change has been received well by the congregation that feels that the Lord is doing a new thing in their lives through the new tag.
The ministry is currently under the direction of Pastor David Oloo. He is the son of Bishop Nashon, the founder of this evangelical ministry. The bishop has also worked as a mentor and teacher to Pastor David. He worked under the bishop, rising to become a Senior Pastor. He has dedicated his youth to the ministry and is doing an incredible job.
A children home for orphaned children forms part of the ministry. It provides love and care to children orphaned by the deadly AIDS scourge that has ravaged the place for decades now. The children cannot run to their extended families since they also are too poor to shoulder an extra burden. It is upon the shepherds of God in the ministry to provide for them.
The orphanage started as a small family whose needs were easy to meet. There is now need for more than food, shelter and clothing. The older children have joined vocational training institutions and require facilitation. This has stretched the resources available to the pastor and his ministry in general.
The Homa Bay Orphans Life Resurrection Center has acted as a source of hope for many children and their families. The center has provided spiritual guidance beyond basic needs. This has been made possible through the support of well wishers from different parts of the world. The contributions have been coming both in cash and kind. Beyond the children and the localized house of worship, the ministry reaches out to people in the villages through crusades. It has remained a blessing to this neighborhood and everyone associated with it.
