3 Effective Positive Parenting Tips

By Erich Park

If you want to try the positive parenting approach to raising your children, this article will have a few tips to help you out. Being a positive parent isn't complicated, but it does take a certain amount of time and effort.

When you practice positive parenting, you will be giving your child praise. This has to be done in the right way, however, or the message won't be properly communicated. For this to work, you have to get down to specifics. For instance, praise your child if he or she gets a good grade or tidies up his or her playroom. Of course, you don't want to use praise so much that it's meaningless. You should use praise consistently, but only when it's appropriate, so your child will know that you are being genuine when you offer it.

Your kids need to see you as a good example and this is probably the one best way you can practice positive parenting. It's really unreasonable for you to expect your kids to behave in a certain way if they see you every day doing the opposite thing. So if you don't want your children to use swear words, make sure they don't hear you using those words yourself. Basics values such as respect, politeness, and honesty should be developed in children and this is where parents must set a good example. Simply put, if you want your children to learn these things, you'll need to lead the way by practicing them yourself.

If you want to practice positive parenting, one of the things you need to do is spend time with your children. You may be busy with work and other responsibilities, but understand that one of your priorities should be to make time for your children. Parents who play with their kids, go places with them and take the time to talk to them every day will form a strong and lasting bond with them. Attend your child's school pays or athletic events. Very often, behavior problems occur when children feel neglected and need attention. Your child's well-being is one of your top priorities so it's important that you make the time to spend some quality time with him or her.

It's important that you know what your child is up to and who they're with at all times. Cell phones and the Internet have made it a lot more challenging these days to monitor your child's activities, but you still need to be on top of what your child does online. This doesn't suggest, however, that you spend every minute looking over your child's shoulder. You simply need to keep a close eye on the things your child is doing when they're in front of the computer and that includes who they're chatting with. You should also be aware of your child's cell phone use. These days, you can count on your child being safe when he or she is in front of a computer or exchanging text messages at home. The above are just a few effective methods to practice positive parenting. The job of a parent is not an easy one. In fact, you'll face a lot of hurdles along the way. Your job can be a tad easier if you make the effort to communicate with your child, making sure you reward good behavior.
