The Law Of Attraction In Action

By Hendrikus Kerkhoff

Some people are turned off by the whole "Law of Attraction," metaphysical, New Age thing and honestly, I can understand that. Personally, I love seeing the magic and wonder of life and enjoy seeing things as miraculous, but that's just me. So, when you see me referring to the Law of Attraction, what exactly am I talking about? Let's just break it down for a moment. Law of Attraction followers generally intend, visualize, focus, look for signs, act, think positively, manifest, and stay grateful. Sounds a little "different" with "intentions" and "manifestations." But to put that in other terms, you set goals, visualize (as an athlete does), watch for opportunities to reach those goals, act, have faith, and are thankful when it happens. Doesn't sound nearly as mystical, does it? Let me expand a bit step by step.

An intention is another way of setting a goal. The difference I've found in intending versus goal setting is my attitude. When I set a goal I generally see it as something that has to get done. It is work. I'm dreading it a bit, but I have to get through it to get to where I want to be. Intentions on the other hand are exciting. I'm looking for opportunities for success, I have faith that they are coming and I get very excited at even the slightest thing that points to my success. Every time I have something to do toward that "goal" I'm excited.

We must learn how to help ourselves by co-creating, along with God, that which we desire by developing faith and applying focused thought. The best way to pray then is affirmatively, to visualize what we desire as if it is already in our experience, and to give thanks in advance, knowing that what we need and desire is available to us. To pray effectively, we pray affirmatively. A powerful prayer is one of gratitude. The more we count our blessings, the more blessings come to us. Our thoughts and prayers really do create our experiences!

Action is imperative when given an opportunity. I've known people who have given me excuses for why they can't do something. For example, I knew someone who really wanted to attend counseling. The only problem was that his depression was keeping him from working as hard as he used to and that was keeping him short of cash, hence a vicious cycle. He couldn't afford the counseling that could help him work more efficiently that could enable him to afford counseling. He stumbled on a counselor offering free sessions as they were just starting out. He could receive counseling helping the counselor to move forward and helping himself to get back on his feet. Yet he didn't take action. This gets us nowhere. Action is imperative!

The third step for deliberate attraction is to allow success to manifest in our life. Allowing is the absence of doubt and fear. If we have a strong desire to be successful but at the same time, we have strong doubts, we will never be able to attract what we want because we will be sending mixed signals in the universe. If, on the other hand, we have a strong desire and some doubts, we will attract success, but it will take a little longer. If we want to rapidly manifest success, we have to have a strong desire with no doubt at all.

We all deserve to be successful in life and whatever dreams we have, we all have the potential to achieve them as absolutely nothing is impossible. We just have to follow the great advice of Walt Disney, who rightly said, "If you can dream it, you can do it."The law of attraction is essentially a belief or theory, that "like attracts like," and that by focusing on positive or negative thoughts, you attract positive or negative results. Basically you attract into your life whatever you think about, whether you want it or not. So if you "truly" believe your thoughts, you literally have the power to consciously and deliberately choose what you want in life. What kind of money do you want to make? While the law of attraction has received quite a bit of publicity these days, the concept has been around for centuries and has been known (and used successfully) by many great minds throughout history. It has been written in books that there is evidence the law of attraction was used by Beethoven, Einstein, and even Jesus. Many wonder why it works, and there are reams upon reams of anecdotal evidence confirming it does.

Two recent popular books promoting law of attraction are The Secret (2007) by Rhonda Byrne, and Esther and Jerry Hick's book Money and the Law of Attraction: Learning to Attract Health, Wealth & Happiness (New York Times Best Seller list Aug 2008). The Secret reveals how you can change every aspect of your life. You can turn any weakness or suffering into strength, power, unlimited abundance, health and joy. The book Money, and the Law of Attraction: Learning to Attract Wealth, Health, and Happiness presents the teaching of the non-physical consciousness named Abraham. The book explains that the two subjects most chronically affected by the powerful law of attraction are financial and physical well-being. Both books offer very unique reasons to think positively and teach that we have the power to change our lives for the better.

Well, let's take a look at this from an economic perspective. Forget about morality or religion or anything like that. Let's just take a look at the basic mechanics of money and human action. There are only five ways to get money. You can find it, receive it as a gift, steal it, print it or earn it. I'm going to assume that when you meditate or visualize the LOA, you aren't stealing, finding, being given, or printing money. You are earning it somehow. You are trading your skills or products for cash. Now, let's consider the basics of human trade. We only trade things when we think we are getting the better end of the deal. When you buy a hamburger for a dollar, you actually think the hamburger is worth more to you than the dollar. Otherwise, you wouldn't make the exchange. That would be like changing a dollar for a dollar, which would be silly.

Likewise, the person selling you the hamburger would rather have the dollar. Before the exchange, you have a dollar, but you want a hamburger. He or she has a hamburger but would rather have the dollar. After the exchange you are both better off. This is true for every single exchange you can make. Working for an employer, making an investment, selling stuff at a garage sale, selling stuff on eBay, or selling your services from home as a writer. There's simply now way for you to get any money at all unless you are giving somebody something that they want more than they the money.

Now I will admit it takes some practice to be aware of our thoughts and to consciously learn to change them. But luckily as humans we can discern and choose to think about what we want. One way to quiet the mind and get control of your thoughts is to consider practicing meditation. Once you start to catch and change your thoughts, you are on your way to creating and obtaining the life you want.Persistence Pays.Benjamin Franklin said "energy and persistence conquer all things". Once you understand how the law of attraction works then its up to you to transmit even more powerful thoughts by adding feeling and clarity to what you are wanting. You deserve all the good things life has to offer so use persistent thinking to summon them to you. If you're having a bad day, try to think of events or memories that make you feel good to shift your paradigm back to attractive thinking. Think of who you love, or bring back fun or happy times that make you smile.
