Silver Labradors Make For Great Companions

By Julio Douthit

Choosing a suitable family dog is always a big decision for any person to make. Most individuals will make up a list of required traits that they may be looking for and this is where Silver Labradors are meeting the mark. This breed of canine is very popular, especially in the USA.

"Labs", as many people commonly call them, are easy to train and are therefore used as service or guide dogs. Breeders of the lab puppies for sale California clients may buy warn that this breed tends to have high energy levels and when not correctly trained as a puppy could become a bit of a handful. But this could be true for most pets and not just indicative of this breed.

Some years ago, registration forms had an "other" option in the color section, which led to owners of charcoal labs being able to interpret the color of the coat in any way they pleased. As a result, those with a muted chocolate puppy ended up calling it silver instead of just brown. None the less the only three accepted shades that are recognized by a few breeders are brown, black or yellow.

Not withstanding the color all Labradors tend to be loyal, lovable and playful. One rule most agree on is that thoroughbred puppies should only be obtained from kennels that have been registered. Buying from disreputable "backyard breeders" may have one end up with an interbred dog which will may be aggressively natured.

Genetics cannot prove these silvery Labs are not purebred, but there are a lot of other factors that need to be taken into consideration as well. Physical characteristics play the biggest role in distinguishing differences between dogs. Mainly visible things like size, build, shape of the ears and head are looked at and compared to set specifications.

Hunting, swimming and fetching is deeply ingrained in all Lab Retriever genes. Bearing this in mind will serve any future owner well as it is most definitely not a pooch that can be left in the backyard with no stimulation or exercise. This brings the next not so fun habit found; the tendency to constantly dig.

Digging is the first sign of a bored Lab and the Chocolate colored ones seem to lean more towards this trait. There is no real explanation as to why this is the case anymore than where the silvery hues now found originated from. None the less, if it looks and acts like it is supposed to, then Silver Labradors is exactly what they are being described as.
