Fostering is a process that can change the life of a child. But before you can get approved to take in a child, your house has to be first examined by a social worker. There are several requirements you must meet before your house will be said to be in a good enough condition for the child to live in. Here are the most important considerations when you intend to get foster parent licensing home WA.

The first thing you should do is to ensure that your house is clean. Clean it up as necessary but no need to overdo it. Chances are that the social worker will not scrutinize every corner in your house. For example, a bit of dust here and there in places that you cannot reach is understandable. On the other hand, do not be so carefree to the extent that your house is full of hoarded stuff.

The next important thing that the social worker will look at is the bedroom where the child will be sleeping. The room should at least have a bed and a closet or cupboard or box, where the child can store their things. If other kids will be sleeping in the room, every child is expected to have their own bed. It is not a must for the walls in the bedroom to be decorated.

Ensure that various safety regulations are in place in the house. This includes having carbon monoxide monitors in the house. You should also have a fire alarm and a fire extinguisher. The hallways should be clear and free from clutter. Have a security system and keep away drugs from where children can reach them.

Have separate spaces in your house for various things. For example, you need to have a dining area, where you eat your food. You should also have somewhere to prepare food and store food. Also, have somewhere to bath.

Other things that should also be in place includes having electrical chords out of the way. All electrical outlets should be covered and any damaged outlets repaired. Any mirrors or bookshelves should be securely fixed on the wall. Stairs should be gated and steps and railings should be sturdy.

In case you have pets, they should have up to date vaccinations. Measures should also be taken to train them, so as to minimize chances of them attacking the kids. Also teach kids how to handle the pets for their own safety. Cover up any swimming pools. Ensure restricted access to the internet, so that kids cannot access pornographic sites or any adult materials in your residence.

Get any persons you live with ready for an interview with the social worker, when the social worker comes over to your house. Also, be ready to explain what your fire safety plan in. It is okay for you to ask the social worker for tips on how to get your house ready for the inspection.
