Vital Characteristics Of The Beauceron Dog Breed

By Barbara Kelly

There is no denying the fact that dogs perform perfectly well as pets. Despite this, not all breeds are safe for a home with children. What you need is a pet that has the right temperament for the safety of your family. One such kennel is the Beauceron dog breed.

In general, the dog is big bodied and very athletic. It has established a reputation of being a working dog due to the ease with which it can be trained and its obedience. It has a body length that slightly outdistances its height. One physical feature that makes it outstandingly beautiful is its long head that augurs perfectly with the shape of its body.

Unlike many domestic kennel species, it has a skull length that is equal to the length of its broad pointed muzzle. Its eyes are also dark brown in color and are generally hard to miss. Its ears are half pricked and high pointing.

When it comes to temperament, Beaucerons are largely obedient and show an instant willingness to please their masters. Furthermore, they are very brave and posses superior intelligence to other breeds. This obedience makes them great for training.

For many years, the breed has been the darling of law enforcement authorities in plenty of countries owing to its extensive positive traits. Its watchful nature, loyalty and fearlessness are essential traits for dangerous police work. In the field, it has been on record as saving dozens of lives of law enforcers due to its ability to sense danger.

This kennel is highly active and prefers exercising out in the open as well. As such, many pastoral communities have for long used it to herd their animals. On a few occasions, however, a few Beaucerons have attempted to herd humans. Luckily, this is something that can be corrected with some short training. Beaucerons love herding sheep because the activity gives them the opportunity to utilize their pent up energy.

Without regular exercise, a Beauceron is bound to become agitated. Therefore, it is advisable to go for other breeds if you reside in a closed off environment and have no time to exercise your kennel. The kennel will always behave well provided it exercises.

Most dogs like to act aggressively in the presence of competing breeds. However, this does not happen with Beaucerons. They stay calm in the midst of other dogs and cats. Even so, it is prudent to keep it on a leash when other dogs are nearby just to be safe.

Another good trait is that the breed is pretty good with kids, which should be a plus if you are a parent. It acknowledges human beings as being authoritative figures and cannot harm children. It easily takes commands from members of a family provided it is treated well.

The growth rate of the breed is pretty fast. Puppies reach 40 pounds aged just 3 months. Sometimes, this is too much for kids simply looking to have small pets when growing up. Despite this fast growth rate, Beaucerons do not mature quickly. With intense socialization, however, they grow to behave well around people and other animals.
