Children And The Responsibility Of Owning A Talk Phone During The School Year

By Frank Collins

Once again children are headed back to school and parents are searching for school supplies and the latest fashionable clothing. One new item that might be added to your child's list this year is a talk phone. It is quite natural or a child to want a way to keep in contact with you and with their friends throughout the year.

Go over responsibility guidelines with the child. It is important that the child knows the phone is for communication purposes only. Although, they will use it to talk to friends, explore the web, and play games, the sole purpose of having the device is so that you can get in contact with them. Your child needs to know that they are not allowed to do everything you do with your phone.

Although parents think of the phone as a way to keep up with their child. Most children think of it as a way to interact with friends and increase their social circle. So, although it is a great way for parents to keep tabs; it is important to talk to children about being responsible with their phones.

Set some guidelines for the child and the cell. You might choose to put a tracker on the phone and tell the child that when they see you calling they have set amount of time to get back in contact with you. This is only when they are hanging out with friends, at school the child has to follow the schools guidelines about using mobile cellular.

You will not find too many young children that do not have a cellphone. Most of them are supplied with the top of the line technology and many are allowed to use it freely. However, if you want to protect your child from the same predators that would be on the computer, you need to take the same precaution with the phone.

It is also important to discuss bullying and only using the phone to interact positive. Many children sneak and open up accounts on their phones to talk and interact with other children away from school. It is crucial to discuss with a child about the negative effect that these app accounts can have on their life. Children should know that they should only talk to people they know from school and family members on their phone. Anyone else has to go through your approval first.

There is nothing wrong with giving your child the best and allowing them to talk freely with their friends. It is good to give children privacy but too much privacy and leniency could lead to other worries. Also, allow your child to work to help pay for their cellular bill.

Overall having a way to communicate with a child throughout the school year is perfectly alright. You want them to be able to contact you when they need to remind you of appointments, practices, and if they need a ride some where. However, you just want to make them aware of the responsibility that comes with owning a big part of technology.
