Methods Of Making Environmentally Friendly Concrete

By Etta Bowen

The term environment is basically used to mean our surroundings. It is the biggest and richest resource in nature and provides people with so much including food and the air we breathe in every day. However, most of the activities that we indulge in in our daily routines affect the well-being of nature in one way or the other. Methods of making environmentally friendly concrete are aimed at reducing this.

Concrete is basically a mixture of cement, sand and gravel stones. This is done in building and construction works. Concrete is very strong when it sets after is has been mixed. The formation of this material is a systematic procedure done by mixing the unit elements in specific proportions so as maximize material use and strength too. It is used in construction of pillars and other structures.

Ordinary concrete mixes produce a lot of carbon which is not so friendly to the environment. This carbon leads to the formation of carbon dioxide. Accumulation of this gas in nature causes global warming which has very drastic effects on nature. Therefore someone had to come up with more nature friendly options. A number of solutions were developed in the process.

A new element had to be introduced into the original mixture for concrete. This element is known as fly ash. It is a waste product in coal burning mines and would otherwise be dumped somewhere to form unnecessary piles. Use of this fly ash reduces the production of carbon footprint significantly. In so doing, it reduces the carbon dioxide going into space hence lowering chances of global warming hazards.

A lot of material is wasted when the remains of any process are disposed of. It is in avoiding of such that recycling was introduced. It is simply an attempt to make the left material to be useful again for other things. Concrete can also be recycled for further use. This will save a lot of useful material and work in line with nature conservation as well.

Physicists also took it upon themselves to design vehicles that minimize on the use of fuel in their movement. These trucks are designed to carry as much load as possible and yet minimize on the utility of oil significantly. In addition they also produce very little gases from the exhaust pipes. This makes them very friendly to both man and nature as well.

Also in an attempt to conserve nature, all dilapidated vehicles have been asked off the road. This is due to the fact that these cars do a lot of harm to the environment with the fumes they release. Other methods have also been implemented in this goal. Plantation of trees is one of the many ways. Trees help clean carbon dioxide from the surroundings.

There are other activities that we undermine but are very crucial in conservation of nature as well. Things such as cleaning our compounds, having a dust bin for the wastes for proper disposal and many others. Observation of all the above activities will keep nature in healthy form. This nature in return will take care of us as well and other life forms on earth.
