Individual Contributors To Emotional Intelligence Training Certification In The Place Of Work

By Lisa Howard

Emotional intelligence is when one has the ability to make smart decisions based on their emotions. In an organization, a business especially, decisions need to be based on facts. We are human and at times may be tempted to make decisions based on our emotions. To avoid making mistakes we should build up to emotional intelligence training certification.

The way you treat new thoughts as new pieces of information, the same should apply to new feelings. Always ensure that you are not clouded by what you may think you feel. You should train yourself to be in a way that your emotions are directly related to your thoughts. This will go a long way in making intelligent decisions.

Be mindful of everything. Put a lot of concentration in everything you do. For example, concentrate on a meal without any interruptions, this kind of build- up helps you concentrate on your emotions. Meditation is also another way of boosting your concentration span. Whenever you feel overwhelmed, take a deep breath and try re-focusing.

As you re-make yourself, feedback should be your best friend. Many are times when we do not see our own flows and we only actually see them once they have been pointed out to us. Sample a reasonable number of people and get intel from them. For example, how did you react to a difficult situation and how did you behave towards them when they were emotional and you will realize an emotional person has a very different response towards the question.

Give yourself a physical scan in various situations. Observe how your body reacts to different situations. Always take a second to observe yourself. If the reaction makes you uncomfortable, you can learn to hide or adjust it with time. For example, when you are in front of a crowd, your shoulder muscles may tense up, you can lose this by doing deep breathes.

Establish habits. You cannot transform yourself over- night. Concentrate on one emotion at a time and work through it. For example, you can find a trusted colleague and air your feelings out to them. The other option is expressing yourself in front of a recording camera and see if the way you are expressing yourself is the way you want people to see it come out.

Take note on stories. People understand them differently and narrate them differently. This is because no two people are completely alike. Different stories bring out different emotions. Study to see how people react to your stories or how you react to theirs. The observation will help you know what needs improving.

A great way to tell what your expressions tell about you is to tell a story. As the people listen, watch how they react. Judging from the way they react you will be able to tell how well or not you are able to express your thoughts and feelings in an intelligent way.
