This is because they are breathtakingly beautiful and require minimal maintenance efforts.

The plant's popular name is derived from its resemblance to the moth. The name itself, is in part a derivative of the Greek word phalluna which means moth. There are around sixty versions of this orchid specie with varying colors and patterns. Although the plant's popularity has led to species being cultivated in locations around the world, it has its historical roots in Asia.

These beautiful decorative plants come in various hues. Some of the more popular hues are, green, yellow, purple, lavender white and red. Some varieties even come with a speckled color pattern. The speckled variety typically features intricately dense patterns of a deeper hue against a backdrop of a lighter hue in a deeper concentration at the inner end of the petal and gradually petering out into the lighter hue at the end. The varying colors and designs makes it easy for flowers enthusiast can find a hue to match their preference.

This specie of orchids is clearly a decorator's dream. The many colors and patterns make them the ideal tool to enhance formal and informal environments. Wedding decorators in particular, find the plant very helpful in creating the perfect celebratory atmosphere for celebrating nuptial bliss. They look absolutely amazing on the bride's arm as her bouquet and just as astonishing as center pieces on the tables at wedding receptions.

The flowers look exotic but they do not require extensive support for survival. This is one of the main factors that make them appealing to today's flowers enthusiasts. Their ease of maintenance is one feature that has made them the preferred house plant of many home makers.

The Moth Orchid's most ideal environment is a tropical one. This is understandably so as the plant originated in the tropical Asian territories such as the Philippines. They do well in environments that feature limited exposure to sunlight. This makes it easy for people who live outside of tropical settings to acquire the tropical look and feel these flowers bring. UV lighting can be used to mimic the sunlight in areas that are devoid of sun.

Like other plants the Moth Orchid needs water. Due to the fact that it only has one stem though, it is unable to store sufficient water to sustain itself for long periods. This means frequent watering is important to its survival. This is addressed using simple methods such as a drip watering contraption. A simple version of this sis a bottle punctured to allow small amounts of water to seep out.

The world of beauty that these flowers reveals to mankind is both astonishing and useful. The fact that they are easy to cultivate make them the ideal flower of the twenty fist century. It is no wonder modern science has already found a way to engineer additional versions through hybrid technology..
