Set Your Pet Up For A Great Lexington Dog Boarding Visit

By Carol Jones

As a pet owner finding out that you have to take a trip and can't bring your beloved furry family member with you can be devastating. You can't always count on people you know to provide the needed care, so what do you do? The most logical thing to do is to take the time to look throughout the area for a Lexington Dog Boarding business to take care of your sweet Kentucky dog. However, finding a place is just a small portion of your job, the rest requires you to spend the time needed to make this a pleasant experience for the dog.

Make sure the animal is well socialized. The more people it's introduced to and the more experiences it has with the outside world the better. Socialization should begin as young as possible and continue throughout the dog's life. This is important for every canine and something that every owner should strive to do. If you know that you travel often for work or pleasure, socialization must be high on your priority list, if not, it's going to be very difficult for the pooch to adjust to new settings.

Visit the facility in advance. This visit can take place either with or without the pooch. By going by the business you'll be able to look signs of potential issues, and get a feeling for whether or not it will a good fit for your pet.If you like the place, you'll feel better about it and so will the dog. If you don't like the place, there will still be time to find another place that you do like, which in turn will make you feel good and that will make the animal feel good.

Be secure in your decision to board the pooch. If you're unsure about it, your pet will pick up on this. These unsure feelings will cause the animal to feel anxious. He will think something bad is about to happen and that will cause the experience to be an unpleasant one. Relax and have fun, secure in the knowledge that you prepared your furry friend as best as you could.

Take a long stroll before heading off to the pet hotel. Long strolls are something that canines adore, it furnishes you both with a relaxing experience, and it depletes the pooch's energy, which makes him or her more settled and better able to relax. Strolls do a lot of good for all canines.

Bring something along that he or she loves. Something that will remind them of home. Your scent will be on it and that will be a great comfort and help reduce anxious feelings.

When it's time to leave, suppress any of your negative feelings or guilt. You want this to be a positive thing so you have to go into it with positive thoughts and feelings. Embrace your decision and feel good about it and your pet will too.

These tips are designed to make things easier on both of you. Keep them in mind and use them. Your pet loves you and picks up on your feelings, always remember this. Boarding a dog doesn't have to be traumatic, you just have to be the pack leader and show him that nothing is wrong.
