Plastic Model Car Kits

By Stacy Schultz

People have found many different ways to spend their spare time. Models and hobbies allow individuals to expand their horizons and keep their minds active while enjoying their leisure time. Playing video games has become one of the leading ways to spend one's time when not working. However, it might be wise to consider the advantages of building plastic models kits over video games.

Advanced engineering has brought interest among ardent modeling hobbyist with the satisfaction it delivers when assembling models.

Why is plastic model assembling a fascination? It's just plain ridiculous to think of owning, say, an aircraft, vessel, lorries, engines or military vehicles in your own home. The best way is to purchase a scaled-down version, without the interiors.

"Plastic Modeling Kits" by Jack C. Harris, Crestwood House Publishers, New York, NY, (1993), 48 pages, ISBN: 0-89686-623-8.

The author of this book is a master modeler, and this book is well illustrated. Mr. Jack C. Harris has written an excellent book and he has included chapters about; plastic model kits, how to choose your first plastic kit to build, and how you can work your way up in skill.

He also explains the tools you will need to build these models, along with the glues, and paints. There is a great section on airbrushing, and I wish I had this book back when I was a teenager because I could have really used it.

In addition, assembling plastic models kits can go a long way toward preparing one for a career. There are a wide range of occupations that depend on a scale model to make their jobs easier. Scientists used such items to represent things that are too small to see with the naked eye or too large to contain. Architects and engineers use scale models to visualize and design buildings, bridges, and other structures. Assembling plastic models as a child can help one learn how to place pieces in an intricate item that will be useful later.

As a whole, constructing plastic scale model kits is simple, but it is not for the impatient ones. The time frame it takes to construct a model can be immense. Model kit building often requires hours and even days to finish. Positive results and excellent quality relies on how well you pay attention to details. In contrast, regardless of experience level, one should enjoy assembling plastic models.
