By Giselle Taylor

You know why Santa's ho-ho-ho-ing? Because Christmas is here and with it great dinners (as evidenced by his jolly belly) and even better company. It is one of the best times of the year for sure. Create a festive atmosphere in your home by applying some of these excellent christmas tree decorating ideas your family is sure to enjoy.

Tree decorating is a profound science that is founded on one dogma-more is more! You heard right, subtle and reserved are for other holidays; Christmas is time for the crazy and exciting! Do not mistake this as a license for gaudiness and quantity driven accessorized fir. Plan your theme and execute well.

Ask yourself, what tree is perfect for my family this year? Want a rich and aromatic timeless fir tree? You can get one at your local christmas tree shop. They will also have selections on synthetic trees if you prefer to have one stored and ready at your disposal whenever you need them. You can do what you want with your home (granted, it's legal of course). Remember, as long as there is a demand-the supply will be there. Look up on specialty sites, they should have things that you need.

Think of your motif and the complementing color scheme before you commence tree decorating. Create an icy christmas of blue, white and silver. Go classic with rich red and green trimmings around the tree. Supply shades for visitors as you go glittery with gold and silver accessories. Ask the children for their input-they will be more than happy to join in on the planning and creating committee for the special project you will all be undertaking.

You do not need to limit yourself to the ornamental balls and holiday garlands, however nice looking they are. Try other things. How about silk flower ribbons or sweet smelling dried herbs attractively festooned around the tree's limbs? Take medium sized candles, set them in gold or silver painted holders, and secure them on the tips of the branches for an old world feel. Never light them up though, I've never heard of a good report of christmas trees being enjoyable bonfires. Take old and new lovely pictures of the family, as well as personal trinkets, and drape it around the tree to get that 'awww' effect.

You know, you don't need to keep yourself to just one tree. Consider having little trees strews in your home's other rooms. For instance, have a tree in the kitchen and embellish it with spoons and forks. And for laughs, how about putting up a miniature tree by the garage complete with dangling nuts, bolts and colorful key chains on its limbs? Wouldn't that put a smile on someone's face as he passes by?

Top the beloved fir with a family heirloom handed down to you. It's usually a star or an angel but any would do as long as it holds a special significance to you. If you don't have one, you can create this tradition with your own tree crowning ornament you can use for the years to come.

And last but not the least-play hymns and holiday carols in your home. It is by far one of the best christmas tree decorating ideas you can do. You can't touch it but it touches you where it counts-Christmas is truly a gift one is compelled to share.
